William Morris
Painter  /  United Kingdom  /  1834~1896

A versatile English designer, artist, autographer, and novelist, he was also a social activist and a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts movement in England. Thoroughly studying traditional patterns and textile designs inspired by medieval art, he created original and beautiful combinations of pattern and color. His textile creations, which he studied throughout his life, are still much sought after today. He designed wallpaper, textiles, furniture, stained glass, and more, and his distinctive style was so popular that it had a profound influence on Victorian interior decoration, and later on the Bauhaus movement.
